York's free APPRISE counselors can make sens of most Medicare issues, from finding a drug plan to filing an appeal. They're available at 771-9008; they also visit, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Springettsbury Township office on the third Wednesday of the month; the West Manchester Township office on the fourth Wednesday of the month, and the Manchester Township office on the second Thursday of the month. Their services are free.
Pennsylvania just increased the amount of money folks can get in heating aid this winter. The money comes under the LIHEAP program. Qualified individuals can receive several hundred dollars to pay gas, oil, electric or other kinds of heating bills. The income limits are$16,245 for one person; $21,855 for a couple or $33,075 for a family of four. The deadline is April 2. For more information go here.
